Dishwasher Repair

Review of Ritz Plumbing

Customer Symptoms:

A frustrated homeowner contacted us with a claim that her dishwasher simply wasn’t getting her dishes clean. With four young children and an always-hungry husband, she was becoming increasingly frustrated with doing dishes three times to get them clean.

Issue:

The customer had acknowledged that she had tried different soaps and tablets in an effort to clean her dishes, but nothing was working. The technician assessed the unit and determined that the dishwasher may not be receiving the proper amount of water.

Resolution:

To confirm his suspicion, the technician checked the electrical valve in the unit. This water inlet valve should open up to allow hot water into the unit when it is working properly. However, the technician found that the valve had failed, thus resulting in the lack of water to clean the cookware. The valve was old and beyond repair, so our technician was able to remove it and replace it with a new model. The homeowner already had dishes waiting to go, so the technician remained in her home to verify that the cycle would be completed properly.

Customer Symptoms:

A homeowner contact us to see if our technicians would be able to find out why her dishwasher wasn’t closing properly. She was becoming increasingly frustrated having to wash her dishes by hand when she had other housework that needed her attention.

Issue:

Our technician discovered that the latch on the dishwasher was loose and had slipped out of position, preventing the door from properly closing by throwing off the alignment. The latch was not engaging properly so the dishwasher would not start at all.

Resolution:

Our technician explained that over time, the latch on the door is used repeatedly and can lead to mechanical problems. He determined that the best course of action would be to adjust the latch position by loosening the screws that hold it and moving it slightly. He was able to successfully slide the latch using just his fingers to move it into place and tightened the screws to secure it. He tested he door several times before determining that the problem had been solved.

Customer Symptoms:

A client was excited that she had recently purchased a new dishwasher but the installation technician had cancelled on her at the last minute. She contacted our company to see if we would come to our home to install the appliance for her.

Issue:

The client wanted to use her new dishwasher but had no way of installing it. We first had to make sure that the dishwasher would have its own circuit from the main electrical panel, a drain to which it could connect and a source of hot water.

Resolution:

After determining that the appliance could be installed successfully, the technician was able to install the feed and the drain hose. He connected the water line by attaching one end of the line to the tap valve and the other side to the water valve on the unit itself. He finished by wiring the dishwasher, placing it in its location and testing the installation by ensuring that the appliance was not leaking.

Customer Symptoms:

We recently sent a technician to a residence after a customer reported that his dishwasher wouldn’t start.

Issue:

The technician checked the power supply to make sure that the shutoff switch was turned on and that the machine was plugged in before testing the motor. He explained to the customer that sometimes the motor can stick, especially if the dishwasher hasn’t been used in a while.

Resolution:

To get it running again, the technician first turned off the electrical power and used his hands to manually spin the fan blades on the motor. He then restored power and verified that the unit was working.

Customer Symptoms:

A mother was unsure as to why her cabinet under the sink was repeatedly soaked with water.

Issue:

We sent a technician to meet with her, and he determined that the faucet was not leaking. He then turned off the water supply, examined the dishwasher next to the sink and noticed that the drain hose was loose.

Resolution:

He was able to tighten the clamp where the hose met the disposal to restore water flow throughout the line and turned the water back on to test the unit before leaving the job.

Customer Symptoms:

We received a call from a homeowner who was having difficulty closing her dishwasher door. Her child had been playing in the kitchen and had fallen backward into the unit, but now the unit was not turning on. The homeowner was concerned that her dishwasher needed to be replaced.

Issue:

Rather than jump to a more expensive conclusion, our technician noticed that the latch on the door of the dishwasher was not working properly. He explained to the homeowner that if the dishwasher does not latch, then the alignment is off and the dishwasher would not run.

Resolution:

While latch issues often occur over time, the homeowner’s son had stumbled into it with enough force that it loosened the connection. The technician assured the homeowner that it would be an easy problem to solve, and he did so by simply loosening the latch screws to move the latch back to its original position. After he verified that the latch was properly placed, he tightened the screws to secure the piece and closed the dishwasher door. Before leaving the residence, he checked to make sure the dishwasher would turn on. The homeowner thanked him for saving her from an expensive appliance purchase that was not needed.

Customer Symptoms:

A client called us detailing an issue with her dishwasher. She had tried numerous soaps and tablets, but her dishwasher wasn't cleaning the dishes thoroughly.

Issue:

We sent a technician to her residence who verified that the dishwasher was installed correctly and that the main water valve was turned on to ensure proper water pressure throughout the home.

Resolution:

The technician first checked and made sure that the circulation pump was functioning before he examined the water inlet valve. He explained to the client that the water inlet valve should open to allow hot water into the unit. However, the technician noticed that the valve was clogged and determined that this was the source of her dishwasher malfunction. Due to the significant amount of damage and clogging, the technician was unable to repair the water inlet valve, but he was able to replace the fixture with a new model. The technician turned the water back on to the home and ran the dishwasher to ensure that the problem was fixed.

Customer Symptoms:

We received a call from a stay-at-home parent who had noticed that his dishwasher wasn’t working. He had purchased different liquids and soaps, but there was still white residue and food particles on the dishes after the unit completed a cycle.

Issue:

The technician first made sure that the pipes and hoses were properly attached and that the electricity running to the dishwasher was working. He wanted to narrow down the cause because many different factors can make a dishwasher malfunction.

Resolution:

After running numerous tests, the technician narrowed down the cause of poor cleaning to improper water flow into the unit. He saw that the inlet valve that allowed water to enter the unit was clogged, so hot water was unable to flow into the dishwasher to clean the dishes. The technician was able to successfully remove the worn valve and replace it with a new one. He tested a load of dishes to make sure that the unit was working.
